On May 25, 2023, Trideum Corporation’s Dr. Michael Bearss, successfully defended his dissertation, entitled “Extending Machine Learning of Cyberattack Strategies with Continuous Transition Rates,” to earn his Ph.D. from the University of Alabama – Huntsville (UAH).
Prior to joining Trideum in 2015, Michael received an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from Columbus State University. As a new Trideum employee, he supported the Battle Lab Collaborative Simulation Environment (BLCSE) program at Ft. Benning (now Ft. Moore), Georgia, while earning his master’s degree in computer science through Georgia Tech Online’s Master of Science in Computer Science program in 2018.
Shortly after graduating from Georgia Tech, Michael began supporting the Cybersecurity Vulnerability Assessment Test Environment (CVATE) program managed by Trideum’s Huntsville-based Systems & Technology (S&T) sector. While supporting CVATE, Michael focused on implementing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies for multiple applications within the test community. Additionally, Michael took on various leadership roles within the company, including serving as the Project Lead for the S&T AI/ML Team, a position which he still holds.
Not one to shy away from a challenge, Michael continued his education in the fall of 2020 by pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UAH under the advisement of Dr. Mikel Petty. Although the Covid pandemic complicated the process and forced his classes online for the first two semesters, Michael persevered and was even awarded the prestigious RADM Fred Lewis I/ITSEC Postgraduate Scholarship in 2021 for his efforts.
After three years of balancing home life, work, and school, Michael is looking forward to identifying additional research topics and projects for future application. He also plans to attend and participate in various technical conferences and workshops throughout the modeling and simulation industry. As Michael recently reflected, “There are a lot of research projects to think about.”
Trideum Corporation commends Dr. Michael Bearss for his achievement.
