The Killeen Food Care Center, an essential food bank in Killeen, TX will receive a much needed donation from an unexpected source, the Trideum Foundation’s Feeding 5000 Initiative.
Each month, this Killeen-based food bank distributes approximately 250,000 pounds of food to local families in need. Due to the generosity of volunteers and those who give in-kind donations, they can deliver about six meals for less than a dollar. That means a donation of $5,000 can provide 25,000 meals.
Surprisingly, many of the food bank’s clients are young active-duty Soldiers from Fort Cavazos looking for a way to make ends meet. Not surprisingly, many of the food bank’s donors and volunteers are also active-duty military members.
Raymond Cockrell, Executive Director of the Killeen Food Care Center, responded to the grant, saying That’s wonderful news! We’re so thankful for Trideum’s support! We can buy 25,000 meals with the $5,000 donation.”
Volunteers from Trideum Corporation’s Killeen office will also volunteer at the food bank in the coming weeks. They will serve meals, fill bags with food, or do other necessary tasks.
The effort is being led by Gene Lutz, a Strategic Analyst for Trideum Corporation in their Killeen office. He shared, “We want to raise awareness of this vital resource in our community. It’s about what they do here year-round, and the difference this makes in people’s lives on a daily basis.” Gene was introduced to the Killeen Food Care Center through his church, one of many in the area who support and rely on the organization. He added, “Working with an effective organization who already has boots on the ground is the most effective way to make an impact quickly, and that’s one of the guiding principles of the Trideum Foundation.”
There are many ways to help the Killeen Food Care Center. Donations of money or food are always needed. Food drives are one of the most effective ways to help them fill their pantry shelves. Volunteers are always needed—whether for an hour or a day or four days each week. They also appreciate prayers for the success of their mission, and for those they serve.
Anyone wishing to donate to the Center can visit https://www.foodcare.org/ and click on the “Donate” link. The Center is located at 210 North 16th Street, Killeen, TX, 76541. It is open to clients 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays, and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on the first and third Fridays of each month.
About the Trideum Foundation
In 2020 the Trideum Foundation began this initiative to help groups who were providing food to people most affected by the COVID crisis. “Feeding 5000” refers to the biblical story of Jesus feeding 5000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish.
The needs of our communities often seem overwhelming, but The Trideum Foundation believed that they could take their limited resources and make an oversized difference by supporting organizations already making an impact. In its first four years, the Feeding 5000 Initiative has awarded nearly $130,000 in grants.
